Five Common Questions About Body Contouring

There are many reasons why people decide to get body contouring done. Here at Kouris M.D. Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, we have helped hundreds of our patients with their sculpting and toning needs and our team of expert surgeons are here to answer any questions you may have. There are many common questions we get asked by patients who come to us wanting body contouring procedures done:

Q What all is involved in a basic body contouring procedure?

A There are several different types of body contouring treatments that can be done. A lower body treatment focuses on the mid to lower areas and include procedures like a tummy tuck, thigh lifts, buttock augmentations and removal of loose skin in the area of the lower body. Upper body treatments focus on areas like the chest, arm, neck, back, and face. You can have several individual procedures done but we usually do not recommend an upper and lower body treatment at the same time so you do not over-tax your body during recovery.

Q I have dropped 100 pounds over the past year and now I have all this excess skin- is there a body contouring procedure that would work to remove it?

A Our body sculpting and contouring options include a range of procedures that are designed to significantly reduce the presence of loose and saggy skin. Men and women alike can benefit from this type of procedure, especially after a great deal of weight loss. Workout routines and building muscle can help reduce loose skin but in many cases, there is more than what can naturally be toned and that is where our body contouring services come in handy.

Q Do I need an overnight stay after the treatments or can I go home the same day?

A You will be under anesthesia for the body contouring treatments and will need a few hours to recover and come out of the sedation. However, you will be able to go home a few hours after the procedure to begin your recovery in the comfort of your own home. You will need someone to arrange transportation to and from our center the day of your treatment and it is important to make sure you have help the first few days as you begin your recovery.

Q I have never had a major surgery done before and I am a bit nervous about it. What kind of directions will I be given post-surgery to help with recovery?

A Every patient is different and every procedure is different. Even two tunny tucks or breast augmentations will not be identical. Your recovery will be unique to you and our team will go over everything with you before your procedure. In general, you will be given pain medication and instructions on how to take it along with instructions about bed rest, activity level, when you can shower, how soon you can start back on your normal routine, when you can start driving again and when it will be safe to consider going back to work. You will need to have someone help you with care and household chores as you recover, especially for the first week or so depending on what procedures you had done.
